VRD - Virtual Retina Display. 3456A.D. 1430 years in the future?

 If i had a $1000000, i would build a virtual retina display for my eye. 
It's simple: a tiny micro-watt RGB laser is fired against the MEMS mirror. 
The MEMS mirror rasterizes the picture a tiny laser at a time on your retina. Using discrete "Lissajous" scanning. 

It would be neat for me to gain the sight in my damaged eye, this way. 

But it makes me think. The retina actually covers the inside of the eye, even the part that is facing backwards. If the MEMS mirror was inside the eye, like a discoball, 

could we see behind ourselves? could we turn light awareness into sound awareness? 

I suppose most people see by focusing. The periphery is all blurry compared to what you are staring at so intently. But we can mentally focus on what we want to listen to, its a matter of periodicity.
